For the most part, non-Cuban Cohiba cigars tend to be expensive and made in the Dominican Republic. However, the newest non-Cuban Cohiba will be neither of those things.
Instead, the new Cohiba Rubicon is made in Honduras and has prices between $8.49-9.49 per cigar. Blend-wise, the Rubicon uses an Ecuadorian habano wrapper over an American broadleaf binder and four fillers: Dominican piloto, Honduran tobaccos from La Entrada and the Jamastran Valley, and Nicaraguan tobacco from Estelí. Rubicon is made at STG Danlí, the same factory that makes the Cohiba Royale.
It’s offered in three vitolas:
- Cohiba Rubicon Box-Pressed Robusto (5 1/2 x 55) — $8.49 (Box of 20, $169.80)
- Cohiba Rubicon Toro (6 x 54) — $8.99 (Box of 20, $179.80)
- Cohiba Rubicon Gigante (6 x 60) — $9.49 (Box of 20, $189.80)
“Rubicon gave us the opportunity to offer a cigar without boundaries,” said Sean Williams, brand ambassador Cohiba, in a press release. “The blend was thoughtfully created with intention. The result is a cigar that bridges tradition with a more modern expression of complexity. It rewards a practiced palate while remaining accessible to emerging enthusiasts.”
General Cigar Co., which sells the non-Cuban Cohiba in the U.S., says Rubicon will begin shipping in August.
