Dalay Adds Three Sizes to Sevilla Line, Debuting in Germany Next Week

Just over a year ago, Dalay Zigarren released a limited edition called Sevilla, a 5 5/8 x 54 robusto especial that came in ceramic jars. Next week, the company will release three new sizes for the line, this time offered in traditional boxes.

Like the original cigar, these new sizes have a blend that is highlighted by Dominican fillers that have been aged in barrels that previously held the company’s Dalay Sevilla Brandy, a process that the company says gives the cigar depth of flavor, enriched by the aromas of the brandy. On top of that is a Dominican binder, while an Ecuadorian wrapper finishes off the blend. The company says that the wrapper undergoes a unique fermentation process that not only gives it a darker color but also added texture, resulting in an appearance where there’s a lot more color variation than most cigars.

The wrapper is now a slightly lower priming, which the company says helps it match the thickness, appearance, and flavor of the original batch. A press release describes the cigar as medium-strength, with notes of dark chocolate, stewed dark fruit, and a honeyed sweetness reminiscent of Pedro Ximenez sherry. The cigars are made at the Zauberberg factory in the Dominican Republic, which is described as Dalay’s “joint venture boutique factory, which is “supervised by our Dominican partners with whom we have been working for almost three decades.”

As for the new sizes, they are:

• Dalay Sevilla Mareva Extra (4 1/2 x 44) — €7.50 (Box of 25, €187.50)
• Dalay Sevilla Robusto (5 x 52) — €9 (Box of 25, €225)
• Dalay Sevilla Super Churchill (7 x 54) — €12 (Box of 25, €300)

The cigars go on sale on Nov. 24 in Germany. For now, the company is only planning to add distribution to Austria, which won’t happen until next year.
