LFD Carbon Flower Review – Cigar Dojo

When I think of La Flor Dominicana cigars, I think of power. The Double Ligero and the Andalusian Bull were some of the strongest cigars to hit the market at the time of their release. I even remember the Colorado Oscuro giving me a hard time back in the day. These blends were bold and felt larger than life. LFD has gone back to their roots with the Carbon Flower.

LFD doesn’t do a ton of collabs, so it garnered some headlines when they announced they were teaming up with ProjectCarbon. The news hit the streets a few weeks before the 2026 PCA trade show and caused some waves. Keep in mind, there is A LOT of news coming out in the month leading up to PCA, but this release piqued my interest.

ProjectCarbon was founded in 2021 by USMC veteran Alan Shea. The company is known for designing high-end, modern carbon-fiber and leather travel cases geared toward cigar hobbyists. This is where the collab comes in. Each five-pack of Carbon Flower cigars comes in a case made by ProjectCarbon. This is some Bond villain stuff.

Carbon Flower Breakdown

  • Wrapper: Mexican San Andrés
  • Binder: Mexican San Andrés
  • Filler: Dominican Republic
  • Factory: Tabacalera La Flor S.A. (Dominican Republic)
  • Production: Limited Edition (1,500 cases of 5 cigars)
  • Vitola: 6″ × 54 (Toro)
  • Price: $40.00 (MSRP)

The LFD Carbon Flower was released back in June of this year. It’s limited to 1,500 five-count packs and has an MSRP of $200. The blend is somewhat uncommon in that it features the hearty San Andrés leaf as both the wrapper and binder, being filled with Dominican tobaccos from LFD’s La Canela farm in the Dominican Republic It debuted at the 2026 PCA show in New Orleans and you can see how short Eric is in this here video.

Appearance

The Carbon Flower is in that “ultra-premium” price point, and it definitely looks the part. The black and silver band takes up a fair amount of real estate, yet somehow manages to feel understated. The traditional LFD flower is the focal point (looking a bit like a ninja star), with some carbon-fiber accents. It’s sleek.

The cigar itself has the presence of a bouncer at an exclusive Manhattan club. Man bun and all. The Mexican San Andrés wrapper is a deep brown with a rustic feel. The pigtail cap sets the look off nicely.

Smoking Experience

This cigar almost feels like a weapon. It’s stout and densely packed, so much so that I’m worried the draw might be an issue. Alas, the draw is great, and the richness of the blend is apparent even before lighting it up.

The cold draw, which I’m on the fence about as an indicator of performance, offers notes of nutmeg, golden raisins, and anise (pronounced uh-NEES and rhymes with police). The wrapper gives off notes of peppercorn and semisweet dark chocolate. Do I experience those flavors once fire is introduced and smoking begins? You’ll have to keep reading to find out.

LFD Carbon Flower cigar smoking

The richness is apparent from puff one. Leather, roasted marshmallow, and chocolate buttercream start things off. The intensity grows with each puff throughout the first third. The black pepper first appears on the lips, then the palate, and finally the retrohale. The latter is the highlight here. I can’t recall a retro changing so much throughout the smoking experience as this one does. It starts out simple and even a bit muted. Then the black pepper begins to pick up, leading to a richness that I can’t get enough of. Ever have a steak with peppercorn sauce?

Black pepper is omnipresent in the middle third. A rich sweetness, similar to demerara syrup, balances out the bold black pepper. Notes of dark chocolate add even more richness, while bold notes of charred oak bring some smoke to the party. The middle third of this cigar is sublime. If I had the credit rating necessary, I would buy a home in this middle third and live out the rest of my days in a state of perpetual bliss.

The final third offers up a transition to the smoky side. The charred oak takes a step forward while the black pepper maintains its hold on the palate. There’s a bit of harshness as I get down to the last few puffs, but I’m willing to look the other way on that. I’m using a roach clip at this point, so I’m probably more to blame here than the cigar.

LFD Carbon Flower

I don’t talk about LFD enough. They have so many great blends, and now there’s another banger to add to the portfolio. I hope they make this a yearly release because it’s a fantastic cigar that I’d love to keep stocked. It’s definitely not an everyday smoke, nor is it for beginners. The Carbon Flower is meant to be savored.
