ADVentura Blue Eyed Jack’s Revenge Maduro High Tide

ADV & McKay Cigars Co.—the company behind the ADVentura brand—has done a masterful job with its overall marketing scheme, which involves the ADVentura storyline. The story chronicles the adventures of ADVentura, a fictional explorer, and his sidekick McKay as they travel the world on various adventures.

In 2022, ADV & McKay released a line named Barbarroja’s Invasion, which the company called “a darker, more aggressive turn in tales of ADV & McKay, with world domination in mind.” Two years later, the company shipped a blend billed as the response to Barbarroja’s Invasion, Blue Eyed Jack’s Revenge, made with a Mexican San Andrés Colorado wrapper.

During the 2025 PCA Convention & Trade Show earlier this year, ADV & McKay showed off a new variation of the company’s ADVentura Blue Eyed Jack’s Revenge made with a Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper covering a Dominican olor binder and filler tobaccos grown in the Dominican Republic. The ADVentura Blue Eyed Jack’s Revenge Maduro High Tide debuted in a single 6 1/2 x 50 diadema vitola that is packaged in 10-count boxes, with pricing set at $21 per cigar and $210 per box.

“Blue Eyed Jack’s Revenge has been our fastest-selling blend since our inception, and we wanted to push the boundaries with a different wrapper and special size,” the company said in announcing the ADVentura Blue Eyed Jack’s Revenge Maduro High Tide.

The cigars are made at the company’s Tabacalera Mina del Rey factory in the Dominican Republic and boxes started shipping to retailers in June.

From a visual perspective, the ADVentura Blue Eyed Jack’s Revenge Maduro High Tide cigars are striking, with dark, reddish brown wrappers that have plenty of tooth to them. There is also a noticeable amount of oil on each, and while there are a few protruding veins, none of them are large enough to be overly distracting. The vitola chosen by the company is great as well, but I notice that the feet are obviously different shapes on two of the cigars, more on that in the Final Notes below. Creamy cedar leads the aromas from two of the cigars—the third is led by cocoa nibs note—followed by paprika, leather, earth, dry straw and black pepper. In general, the feet smell sweeter, with sweet barnyard over anise, coffee beans, dark chocolate, granola, cedar and raisins. There is some significant spice on the cold draws, along with leather, earth, coca nibs, herbs, almonds and cornbread sweetness.

The first third starts off with some light spice on my lips, light black pepper and a strong, bitter espresso flavor. After about 10 puffs, the profile begins to morph and eventually features a main flavor combination of sweet cedar and creamy peanut butter. Secondary flavors of powdery cocoa nibs, cinnamon, earth, plain popcorn, sawdust and baker’s spices flit in and out, while the retrohale of all three cigars is full of zesty red pepper and rich raisin sweetness. There is some light but noticeable spice on my tongue for the first and second cigars, but none on the last cigar. All three cigars have a distinct coffee bean flavor on the finish, but it is strongest in the second cigar. Flavor ends the first third at full, the strength hits a solid medium, and the body is just below the medium mark. So far, there are zero issues with any aspect of construction for all three cigars.

During the second third, the profile of all three cigars becomes noticeably more bready in nature, with flavors of sourdough bread and creamy cedar taking over the top spots. At various points, additional flavors of peanut butter, gritty earth, dried tea leaves, nutmeg and coffee beans make themselves known, while the spice that was on my tongue for the first and second cigars is long gone by the halfway point. Compared to the first third, the amount of red pepper on the retrohale has been cut in half, but the raisin sweetness that was present has changed to a creamy butterscotch candy flavor that is extremely enjoyable. Flavor remains at full, the body increases to a solid medium, and the strength bumps up to medium-plus. Construction-wise, two cigars need very minor touch-ups in virtually the same place—just after the halfway point—but the other cigar’s burn line is razor sharp, and there continue to be no issues with either the draws or the smoke production.

Just after the final third begins, the profile shifts again as the main flavor reverts back to the sweet cedar and creamy peanut butter combination that dominated the first third. At various points, secondary notes of gritty earth, granola, toasted bread, nutmeg, coffee beans and a touch of floral flavor show up, while the red pepper and raisin sweetness combination on the retrohale continues at the same level as the first third. Flavor ends at full, the strength remains firmly at medium-plus, and the body increases slightly to hit a point just over the medium mark. There are no issues at all with the burn, smoke production or draws for any of the cigars until I am finished with each one.

Final Notes

  • The original ADVentura Blue Eyed Jack’s Revenge line is packaged in a box that plays a recording when opened: “a small price to pay for the taste of sweet revenge.”
  • While this is technically a regular production release, Nicole Knobel, director of operations for ADV & McKay Cigars Co., called the cigar a “small batch, special edition,” adding that the company is starting small to test the waters and see how the cigar is received before committing to expand production.
  • The Blue Eyed Jack’s Revenge Robusto finished #19 on halfwheel‘s Top 25 Cigars of 2024 list.
  • Each box also includes an exclusive pirate coin. Sadly, we did not purchase a box of these cigars for the review, so no coin for us.
  • I love the color combination of light blue, metallic gold and metallic blue colors that are used on the bands for this release.
  • I could not ask for better construction on the first and last cigars: razor-sharp burn lines, excellent draw with just the right amount of resistance and plenty of dense, off-white smoke. Other than a minor correction in the second third of my last two cigars, I did not have to use my lighter once the cigars were initially lit.
  • There was a significant difference in the shape of the feet of two cigars I smoked for this review, as you can see in the photograph above
  • The cigars for this review were purchased by halfwheel.

  • These cigars are listed as being 6 1/2 x 50 vitolas. Above are the measurements we took when we measured them.
  • The final smoking time averaged out to one hour and 42 minutes for all three cigars.
  • If you would like to purchase any of the ADVentura Blue Eyed Jack’s Revenge Maduro High Tide cigars, site sponsor Atlantic Cigar Co. has them for sale on its website.

Overall Score

I have made no secret of how much I have enjoyed the vast majority of ADV & McKay releases that I have smoked, and the ADVentura Blue Eyed Jack’s Revenge Maduro High Tide is just the latest example. The blend features a complex and nuanced flavor profile along with great transitions between thirds, but that is just the start of the story. There is also the extremely good construction and an amazing balance between the medium-plus strength, the light spice present on my tongue and the combination of red pepper and sweetness on the retrohale. There are not many cigars that nail virtually every aspect of what makes a great cigar, but the ADVentura Blue Eyed Jack’s Revenge Maduro High Tide is definitely one of them.

I have worn many hats in my life up to this point: I started out as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, then transitioned to photographing weddings—both internationally and in the U.S.—for more than a decade. After realizing that there was a need for a cigar website containing better photographs and more in-depth information about each release, I founded my first cigar blog, SmokingStogie, in 2008. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars, and it was one of the predecessors to halfwheel, which I co-founded.
