Before there was My Father, there was El Rey de Los Habanos, best known for its Don Pepín García cigar lines.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Don Pepin García Series JJ line and My Father has begun shipping a pair of anniversary cigars that come packaged in a single box that has 16 toros and one salomon. Blend-wise, the cigars are made entirely of Nicaraguan tobacco and described as “3/4 to full” strength.
The difference in wrapper color is not a mistake: the toros use a lighter rosado leaf, while the salomon gets a darker rosado oscuro wrapper. Despite the color difference, the wrappers are from the same place: the García family’s Las Lometas farm.
- Don Pepín García Series JJ 20th Anniversary Toro (6 1/2 x 52) — $22 (Box of 16, $352)
- Don Pepín García Series JJ 20th Anniversary Salomon (7 1/4 x 57) — $22 (Box of 1, $22)
Production is limited to 2,500 boxes. The two vitolas have their own special places in the My Father portfolio: the 6 1/2 x 52 toro extra is the company’s go-to vitola for special releases and the salomon was a size offered in the original Series JJ line.
The Series JJ line is named after Jaime and Janny García, the children of José “Pepín” García, both of whom lead different parts of the García’s My Father operation.
